How It All Began...

Kaleo - Prayer and Worship Training Center is an intensive training program that equips singers, musicians and intercessors with the theology and tools needed to cultivate a life of worship and prayer. More than just a school, Kaleo is a community of friends walking together pursue to goal of seeing Jesus glorified in Hong Kong. Below is the story of how Kaleo was birthed from the perspective of our co-founder, Philip Lee.

It all started on a subway car in Shanghai. It was June of 2015 and I had just finished a leg of ministry in Asia. Hysan Lau, my good friend and peer, just so happened to be in Shanghai at the time and offered to take me to the airport. It was there in that subway car to the airport that we began dreaming together about the possibility of opening a short-term training school in Hong Kong. Right then and there, we sat down and began to write up a quick sketch for a 9-week training school on our iPhone. Even to this day, we are using the ideas from that initial sketch in our training school.

In August of 2015, I came to Hong Kong to lead a team of missionaries, and almost immediately, God closed all doors to external ministry. During this season, God made us realize that our success lied not in our external ministry but in how we seek His face in the secret place. He spoke to us and said, “I will not do anything fruitful apart from prayer in the secret place.” Soon after, God opened the opportunity for us to start the IHOPU-Hong Kong Training School. Expecting no more than thirty people for our first training, we knew that God was moving when over 300 people applied. Since then, over 750 students from over 140 churches in Hong Kong have gone through our programs. This school is not a testimony of human prowess, but of the driving zeal in God’s heart to have a resting place in Hong Kong!

In the infancy of our school, we realized that the Lord was highlighting His desire for us to teach on things that were outside of IHOPU Kansas City’s focus and were specifically for Hong Kong and the surrounding region. Thus, with the blessing of IHOPU and our local leadership, we decided to go through with our training school name change. In 2017, we changed our name from IHOPU-HK Training School to Kaleo - Prayer and Worship Training Center.

May the Lamb receive the rewards of His sufferings and be exalted above every man and ministry in this city. The Spirit and the Bride say come!

Amen.
